Sending Church

I am a firm believer that the Church is where ministry begins. Living Hope Baptist Church holds me accountable for my ministry and faithfulness to God. Though I am not a missionary, I believe this is the Biblical model displayed in the Bible. (Acts 13:1-3)

Statement of Faith

The beliefs listed are not exhaustive of my Christian beliefs. However, they do represent beliefs that are fundamental to my faith. Though I do not believe disagreement on doctrine guarantees a lack of salvation or a need to be biblically separate, I do believe that many of the statements listed are nonnegotiables for the Christian faith.

God

  • I affirm that there is one God In three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is perfect, Creator and Sustainer of all things, self-existent and eternal, sovereign over all creation, omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, and worthy of all worship, honor, and glory. (Gen. 1:1; Psalm 22:8; Psalm 103:19; Isa. 40:28; Matt. 5:48; Matt. 28:18; Mark 12:29-34; John 1:1-3; 1 Cor. 8:4; Col 1:16-17; Heb. 1:1-3; Rev. 1:8; Rev. 4:11)

  • I affirm that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are distinct persons. They are not three roles or manifestations of God but three co-equal and co-eternal persons who share the same divine essence. The Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is not the Father. Each person is fully God, yet there is one God. (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 3:15-17; Mark 12:29-34; John 1:1-3)

  • I affirm God the Father, the first person of the Trinity, who is the almighty Creator of heaven and earth. He is the source of all that exists and the initiator of the divine plan of redemption. (Matt 23:9; 1 Cor. 8:6; 2 Cor. 1:3-4; Eph. 1:3; Eph. 4:6)

  • I affirm Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, who is fully God and fully man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the Father's right hand. (John 1:14; John 3:16; John 14:6; Rom. 6:23; 1 Tim. 2:15)

  • I affirm the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. He is fully God and active in the world today, convicting of sin, regenerating hearts, indwelling believers, guiding, teaching, and empowering them for Godly living and service. (John 15:26; Acts 1:8; Rom. 8:11; 1 Cor. 3:16; 1 Cor. 12:3)

Scripture

  • I affirm the Bible as God's inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word. The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are God's complete and final revelation to humanity. The Bible is authoritative in all matters of faith and practice, providing clear guidance for living a life that pleases God. (John 10:35, 1 Thess. 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21)

  • I affirm the Bible is the supreme authority for our faith and conduct. It is sufficient for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. No tradition, human reasoning, or experience can supersede the teachings of Scripture. Humans are called to submit to its authority and align our lives with its precepts. (Matt. 4:4; Matt. 5:18; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Man

  • I affirm that man is a unique creation of God, made in His image and endowed with dignity and worth. I believe that the purpose of man is revealed in the Scriptures to be the glory of God. This includes worship, obedience, and service. Man is to love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love their neighbors as themselves. (Genesis 1:26-27; Acts 17:26-27; 1 Cor 8:6)

  • I affirm that man and the world fell into sin through Adam's disobedience. This original sin brought about spiritual death and separation from God, corrupting human nature and making all people sinners by nature and by choice. The fall has affected every aspect of human existence, introducing suffering, death, and a propensity toward evil. (Gen. 3:1-19; Psalm 51:5, Rom. 5:12)

  • I affirm all people are eternal. Those who have trusted in Christ will be raised or raptured to eternal life with God, while those who have rejected Him will face eternal punishment from God in the Lake of Fire. (Matt. 25:46; John 5:28-29; John 17:3; Rom. 6:23)

Sin

  • I affirm sin as any act, thought, word, or feeling of omission or commission outside of the will of God. Sin is universal, affecting every person without exception. It manifests in various forms, including pride, selfishness, idolatry, and moral transgressions. (Rom. 3:23; Rom. 14:23; James 1:15; James 2:11; James 4:17)

  • I affirm the consequences of sin are both immediate and eternal. Sin separates us from God, resulting in spiritual death, and It brings about physical death and suffering in the world. (Gen. 3:16-19; Rom. 5:23; 1 Cor. 6:9-10)

Salvation

  • I affirm that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Sin has separated humanity from God, resulting in spiritual death and the inability to save ourselves through our own efforts. The consequence of sin is eternal separation and judgment from God, but His love and mercy provide a way of salvation. (Rom. 3:23; Gal. 5:19-21; 1 John 1:6)

  • I affirm salvation is made possible solely through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I believe that Jesus, fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a substitute for sinners, and rose from the dead, conquering sin and death. His sacrificial death satisfies the righteous demands of God's justice, and His resurrection guarantees the believer's victory over sin and death. (John 3:16, John 14:6; 1 Thes. 1:10)

  • I affirm that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, and offered to the whole world. It is not earned by human works or merit but is a free gift from God. Faith involves trusting in Jesus Christ, repenting of sin, and receiving Him as Lord and Savior. This faith is itself a gift from God, enabled by the work of the Holy Spirit. (Rom. 10:9; Eph. 2:8-9; Titus 3:5)

Church

  • I affirm that the Church is a community of true believers united by their faith in the one true God. The Church is both universal, comprising all true believers worldwide, and local, manifesting in individual congregations. It is the body of Christ, with Jesus Himself as the head. (Acts 20:28; Eph 2:20-22, Col 1:18; Heb 10:24-25)

  • I affirm that Jesus Christ instituted two ordinances for the Church: baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism by immersion is an outward symbol of a believer's identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection and is a public declaration of faith. The Lord's Supper, or Communion, is a memorial of Christ's sacrifice, observed in remembrance of His death and in anticipation of His return. (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 2:38; 1 Cor. 11:23-29; 1 Cor. 12:13)

  • I affirm the Church's mission to make disciples of all nations, as commanded by Jesus in the Great Commission. This involves evangelizing the lost, baptizing new believers, and teaching them to observe all that Christ has commanded. The Church is committed to both local and global missions, seeking to share the gospel and demonstrate Christ's love through acts of service and compassion. (Matt. 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Acts 13:47)

Nonprofit Ministries

  • I affirm that the purpose of nonprofit ministries is ultimately to bring glory to God. The second and subservient purpose is to assist the Church in carrying out the Great Commission. The Christian Nonprofit Ministry is not a God-ordained institution and is not equal to the true Church. However, Christian Nonprofit Ministries as an organization do not need to be directly under the Church’s authority. (1 Cor. 10:31)
